Highlights

2021

2021 saw the first collaboration between Cactus Creek Foundation and USA for Africa to provide train underserved youth (mostly women) in digital and entrepreneurial skills to improve their ability to find jobs or create their own businesses.  Following the training on skills for the hospitality industry, a number of the youth were able to find jobs in the various hotels in the surrounding communities, including at Cactus Creek hotel.

2022

In 2022, Cactus Creek Foundation collaborated with USA for Africa to provide a free Web and Graphic design training Program for over 30 Youth, mostly women,  in the Aburi community.  A number of the youth have used the experience to create businesses.  At least one of the trained youth is currently providing Graphic design services to some of the hotels in the Aburi and surrounding communities.

2024

In 2024, Cactus Creek Foundation, in collaboration with USA for Africa provided technical and digital skills training and developed a website and ecommerce platform to the Aburi Craft Village to improve their business, generate revenues and improve their potential to contribute employment generation in the country.

Arts and Crafts constitute a key component of the Tourism industry and supports micro and small businesses because the industry has low entry costs. This means that even if a person has only a limited amount of capital and limited skills, he or she can still establish their own business. Nonetheless, many encounter difficulties even in raising the minimum capital to start and have even bigger challenges in producing internationally competitive products and finding markets. The objective was to provide these gifted Artisans with entrepreneurship and digital skills and sales platform which could result in bigger market opportunities and could lead to more sustainable income and jobs for the community.  Through the joint efforts of  Cactus Creek Foundation and USA for Africa,  we provided a comprehensive entrepreneurship and financing bootcamp for the Aburi Craft Village which is made up of about 400 Craftsmen and Crafts Women from Aburi and surrounding towns.   The support for these informal entrepreneurs has improved their ability to be the suppliers of arts and crafts to visitors who patronize the string of hotels in the community in the community itself and across the country and even out of Ghana.

2025

In 2025, Cactus Creek and USA for Africa again collaborated to provide training and limited seed capital to about 20 of young women in the Craft Village to improve their businesses. The support resulted in the women’s ability to purchase additional supplies for sales and improved their entrepreneurship and marketing skills.  There is evidence of improved income and more sustainable businesses.

May 2025

In May of 2025, Cactus Creek Foundation and partners USA for Africa shifted attention to focus on women decision makers in the technology space through a Table Talks discussion series to assess how women in the sector can make a difference for other younger women.  The Women For Women in Tech (W4WIT) is making a significant impact and becoming a platform for growing the next generation of women in the Tech sector.
